OSCAR-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis has revealed he was one of the “soldiers of the dawn” who tuned in to Hector Ó hEochagáin on 2fm.
Hosting his last breakfast show this morning, the Navan man read out a card he had received from the Wicklow-based star of My Left Foot praising the morning programme.
Reading out the message in the last ten minutes of his final show, Hector said: “I got a card a while back and it read like this: ‘Dear Hector, you are mighty. Thanks to you, Ireland doesn't feel like a rudderless ship anymore. With thousands like us, we listen to your show every morning on the short journey, and we feel better for it.
“‘You even have my teenagers now fighting over the radio. With love and thanks Daniel Day Lewis and family.’”
Hector later wished the “brand new breakfast from Hector or Brand new breakfast show on 2fm” that will replace him “the best of luck”.
Signing off, he said: “Well that's it from Breakfast with Hector. We have had a great three years. I want to wish the brand new Breakfast with Hector or the brand new breakfast show on 2fm that will be here in 2014 the best of success, as they get up early to wake up the country. I am off on my TV journey.”
The new line-up is rumoured to feature Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O'Shea from the Republic of Telly.
Hector described producer Alan Swan, who will take over the show until the new programme comes on air, as “my brother in broadcasting”.
Alan (34) will now host the |second biggest breakfast show in the country.
He told the Herald: “I will be filling in for the next couple of weeks. It's the nature of the job you that you can be asked to do something like this.”
