The Eurovision Song Contest generated 5,384,678 tweets on social media with Austrian drag artist Conchita Wurst crowned the winner.
In data released today, Twitter also revealed the number of people following "bearded lady" Conchita jumped from just under 10,000 in the days before her performance to 44,100 after she secured victory in Copenhagen with 290 points.
Peak Twitter activity was reached after the cross-dressing singer's win was announced, spiking at 47,136 tweets per minute (TPM).
The next highest level of activity came with the performance of her song Rise Like A Phoenix, generating 42,660 TPM.
Somewhat surprisingly, the third most tweeted-about moment came when France's Twin Twin sang their colourfully camp hit Moustache - the Gallic entry eventually flopped to last place though, polling just two votes.
However, while the performance may have left both the voters and judging juries cold it did set the Twittersphere abuzz generating 39,353 TPM.
Celebrities also used their social media accounts to comment on the kitschest competition in music, including comedian Russell Brand who played up similarities between his looks and those of Conchita.
In a Twitter post, he joked: "I don't normally endorse voting but please vote for me on #Eurovision tonight. #Austria."
Meanwhile, Sky Sports news anchor Hayley McQueen made an interesting observation looking ahead to the Rio 2014 World Cup, posting: "The last time #Austria won #Eurovision, England won the World Cup."
