West enjoys some ceol agus craic
THOUSANDS of people are expected to head west this weekend to attend the country's longest-running traditional Irish arts festival.
Oireachtas na Samhna is a mecca for Irish-language enthusiasts, showcasing all aspects of traditional Irish art forms including singing, dancing, music-making and storytelling.
This year the festival takes place in Killarney in Co Kerry and will run until Sunday.
Some 15,000 people are expected to flock to Killarney and the festival is worth €5.5m to the town.
Events taking place include musical performances, Irish drama, old-style story-telling, and sean-nos singing and dancing.
