Watkins and Norton up for literary awards

Having spent hours huddled over laptops and notebooks, Irish authors gathered in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for the unveiling of the Irish Book of the Year Awards shortlist. "It's like our Christmas party," crime writer Alex Barclay said.

Graham Norton, Kathleen Watkins, comedian Jason Byrne, and Roddy Doyle are among the nominees. Queen of the bonkbuster Jilly Cooper will receive the International Recognition Award at the ceremony on November 16 in the Double Tree by Hilton.

The Irish Independent's Indy Power is nominated in the Cookbook of the Year for 'The Little Green Spoon' while the 'Sunday Independent's Sophie White also got the nod for 'Recipes for a Nervous Breakdown'.
