TAKING a break from the Lisbon Treaty campaign trail, Taoiseach Brian Cowen last night gave his backing to the autobiography of Kilkenny hurling manager Brian Cody.

Mr Cowen said it had "the inside track on the most successful hurling team of the last decade".

'Cody: the Autobiography' was written with the aid of Irish Independent GAA editor Martin Breheny and incorporates Mr Cody's diary of this season's successful championship.

"From reading Brian's book, it is clear that huge effort, commitment and hours spent in training are the down payments which his team constantly make to achieve sporting success," Mr Cowen said.

"He is a hero not just to Kilkenny supporters but to everyone who cherishes our national games," the Taoiseach said during the launch of the book at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin last night.
