The Sunday Poem

Anthony Cronin

RMS Titanic was first published in the London review X in 1961. It subsequently appeared on its own in volume form and has been included in various editions of my work since then. In the past year Donal Lunny has composed some marvellously evocative music for it and it has been performed with success at several festivals and events. Besides Donal, and myself as reader, Graham Henderson plays keyboard and the singers include Allison Sleator. In this extract the sinking of the Titanic is seen as an intrusion and a warning to an apparently idyllic world.
