The Great Arts Quiz 2011
The gloom of January is always lightened with the response to our annual Arts Quiz. As usual, we had hundred of entries from Waterford to Westport and beyond; it's heartening to witness this testament to a nation of arts lovers, so widely knowledgeable across the spectrum.
There were plenty of nearly all-correct entries. The picture gallery always stumps people, as is its intention. Noomi Rapace was mistakenly identified as Rooney Mara (right film, wrong version) and Tara Fitzgerald. And quite a few entrants erroneously attributed the pop art sold in New York for $43.2m to Picasso and Andy Warhol. The correct answer was of course Roy Lichtenstein.
But we're not here to beat you up about your mistakes. The most important thing was how many took part and how well you did. The first all- correct entry out of the bag was from Chris Scully, of Drumcondra, who wins our fabulous prize of a luxury midweek break for two (worth €500) at the stunning Sheraton Athlone.
This short sojourn, which includes dinner, wine and spa treatments, is the perfect pampering prize after all that frenetic cerebral activity. Congratulations Chris and well done to all those who entered.
