Sunday best celebrates super season of GAA
A PICTURE says a thousand words -- and that is certainly the case in a new book that captures the highs and lows of a thrilling 2013 GAA season.
More than 350 photographs taken by agency Sportsfile feature in 'A Season of Sundays', a coffee-table book now celebrating its 17th year of publication.
The pictures go from sparsely attended games in the depths of January to the showpiece occasions in September in Croke Park.
According to Ray McManus of Sportsfile, the book depicts "perfectly thrilling" scenes throughout the football and hurling seasons, as well as "quintessential moments of the sport".
"Of course there are the action shots or moments of jubilation, but there are also behind-the-scenes elements, like one shot of Michael Kyle from Co Louth, pouring out tea for everyone after a club match," Mr McManus said.
Also captured in the book are the All-Ireland champion hurlers Clare, who feature on the front cover of 'A Season of Sundays'
In addition, there is a stand-out shot of Domhnall O'Donovan as he scored the crucial point in the dying seconds of the All-Ireland hurling final, which ultimately generated the replay and saw Clare go on to claim the Liam McCarthy cup.
"It's unbelievable to think that Clare feature on the cover because at the start of the year I never imagined we'd have such an impact on the Championship," the 25-year-old said.
'A Season of Sundays', sponsored by Carrolls, retails at €29.95 and is available from bookstores nationwide.
