1With 11 countries, 11 voices and 11 venues on one hopefully summery evening, Words on the Street is a celebration of European literature. Next Thursday, familiar faces including Anne Doyle, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Phelim Drew, Fiachna Ó Braonáin, Joe Duffy (pictured right) and others will be reading in venues scattered around the Nassau Street area of Dublin. See Dublincityofliterature.ie.
2One of the few operas we all recognise – trust me, you will almost be able to sing along – Tosca has been chosen for the 20th anniversary performances of Lyric Opera. Puccini's classic will be performed for three nights next week in the National Concert Hall, (nch.ie) by an impressive cast of stars, including soprano Naomi Harvey in the title role and tenor Michael Wade Lee as Cavaradossi.
3The generations will always confuse each other, and this provides perfect fodder for A New Day, a comedy that opened this week in Bewley's Café Theatre (www.bewleyscafetheatre.com). Gerard Lee has a great team for his premiere. Directed by Bairbre Ní Chaoimh, the cast includes Charlotte Bradley and Anthony Brophy.
