On the side of the angels -- Lorna's message of hope wings its way to the US
Lorna Byrne, the Irish woman who talks to the angels, has signed a major book deal with an American publisher which could have her flying high in the US.
Lorna's latest book, A Message of Hope from the Angels, has been at number one in Ireland for the past 12 weeks (Nielsen hardback non-fiction list) and continues to hold the top spot, an achievement of celestial proportions in the publishing business.
It has now been acquired by Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, which is one of the biggest publishers in the US.
The book will be launched in the US in time for the Christmas market, with Lorna Byrne doing the major TV shows to publicise it.
Significantly, the vice president and publisher of Atria Books, Judith Curr, is handling Byrne's book personally. Curr was the editor of the international multi-million bestseller, The Secret.
"I have been eager to be Lorna's American publisher since reading her memoir. And I am thrilled that I will now be able to bring her message of hope to the public," Curr said.
Lorna says she has been seeing angels since she was a child and talks to them every day. She kept this aspect of her life secret until 2008 when she released her memoir Angels in My Hair.
That book became a word-of-mouth international bestseller; it has been translated into 26 languages and has sold in more than 50 countries, with total sales now exceeding half a million copies.
In her new book, Byrne expands her message that guardian angels can help people as they face the daily challenges of today's world.
Each chapter is themed to provide hope in relation to a specific issue -- loneliness, feeling unloved, being depressed or being financially challenged.
The book, which went straight to number one in the UK recently and spent five weeks in the top 10 there, has struck a chord with people everywhere in the ongoing economic downturn.
When she's not writing, Byrne speaks to packed events all over the world and is currently on tour in the UK. Her speaking schedule this year includes New York, Bern, Zagreb, Hamburg, Helsinki, Stockholm and Prague.
A Message of Hope from the Angels will be published in 11 languages during 2012. Atria Books expect that this will be her breakthrough book in the US and will garner her a huge following there.
Byrne was in New York this week to see Curr and the team at Atria planning for the book launch later this year. She was also preparing for what promises to be a fascinating speaking event in New York later this year.
She has a significant Muslim following and has been invited by the American Society for Muslim Advancement to a public interview with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, a leading Imam and Muslim academic.
Watch out for angels over the Big Apple.
