CHILDREN'S BOOK COMPETITION
Sunday September 28 2008
The children of this land are a lucky lot. Barely has the fabulous Anthony Horowitz left our shores (after an exhilarating visit to Books 2008) but young people are set fair to enjoy their own month long dedicated festival. The Children's Book Festival 2008 will run from October 1 to 31, with more than 1,500 events expected to take place nationwide to celebrate children's books and encourage reading. Now 18 years old, the festival is a huge boon for the children's books community and the largest cultural event of its kind in the country.
It all kicks off next Wednesday when Skulduggery Pleasant creator Derek Landy launches the festival event at the Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin. Children will be invited to attend the launch dressed as their favourite Skulduggery character, with a prize for the best costume. From then until the end of the month there's a countrywide non-stop series of readings, workshops, performances, quizzes, plus some very spooky goings-on in libraries, schools, book shops and art-centres as Hallowe'en draws near. To celebrate, we've six sets of six books for young teenagers by such popular authors as Eoin Colfer, Oisin McGann and Anthony Horowitz to give away. All you have to do is answer the following simple question:
Who wrote Skulduggery Pleasant?
A) Derek Landy
B) Derek Davis
