Maeve Binchy fans to celebrate late author and stage adaptation of Minding Frankie by voting for favourite novel
Fans of the late great Maeve Binchy have been invited to vote for their favourite Binchy novel by the Gaiety Theatre and Dubray Books.
Binchy published 16 novels and with titles including Tara Road, Circle of Friends, and Light a Penny Candle to choose from among a wealth of other best-sellers it's likely to prove a tough task.
The poll was launched Monday to celebrate the upcoming run of Binchy's Minding Frankie at the Gaiety Theatre and the results will be announced later this month.
Minding Frankie has been adapted for the stage by Shay Linehan and will run for two weeks from June 6-17 after a run at the Everyman Cork from May 30-June 3.
Remarkably this will be the very first time a Maeve Binchy novel will be brought to life on the stage.
Minding Frankie tells the story of Noel Lynch, an alcoholic who is thrust into fatherhood when he shares a drunken weekend with a girl called Stella, who gives birth to their daughter Frankie, but tragically dies from cancer.
Noel faces a battle to raise her as social worker Moira Tierney fights him for custody.
The play is produced by Breda Cashe, directed by Peter Sheridan, and stars Steve Blount and Clare Barrett.
Tickets: from €25 - €37 (including booking fee and €1 restoration levy) from Gaeity Box Office or Ticketmaster (service charge applies to online and telephone bookings).
