A YOUNG artist has told of her delight after her work was chosen for display in the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London.
Mollie Douthit (27), who is studying at the Burren College of Art in Co Clare, was left speechless when she received a call asking her to display some art at the world-famous gallery.
Two of her pieces were chosen for the display, 'Continental Shift: Emerging Artists from Saatchi Art' which will run until April 22.
"I found out three weeks ago when the head curator of Saatchi Art Online contacted me and said they'd like to feature me in the gallery. It's been absolutely crazy since," said Mollie.
Mollie immediately sent over two of her pieces, 'Crushed' and 'For Two'. They are of everyday objects, in these cases garlic and tea bags, painted in intricate detail.
However, while two of her pieces are now hanging in the gallery, the student might not get the chance to see them there.
Mollie is currently completing her Master of Fine Art course exams and will be tied up with work during the exhibition.
She is a previous winner of the 2013 Hennessy Craig Award at the Royal Hibernian Academy, and will take up the Tony O'Malley Residency in Kilkenny next year.
