A young garda impressed a sizable crowd when he took to a stage in Mayo to perform Frank Sinatra's iconic song 'My Way'.
Local Garda Alan McGinty proved to be a hometown hero when he sang the song along with the garda band, who were in town for the Ballina Salmon Festival.
The relatively new garda recruit had his audience singing along by the end of the above video, which has been viewed more than 10,000 times on the festival's Facebook page.
Although Garda McGinty doesn't sing with the band, he has spend years in St Muredach's Cathedral Choir, according to its director Regina Deacy.
"It was his first time to sing with them with them and there was no rehearsal beforehand,! she told Independent.ie.
The Ballina Salmon Festival, which is not in its 53rd year, attracted around 200,000 people to the Mayo town, according to committee member Anne-Marie Flynn.
"It's a huge event for the area and there's a lot of international interest in it.
"There wasn't a bed to be got within a ten mile radius of Ballina."
She added that it was a special pleasure to see Garda McGinty up on the stage this year.
"He's a fantastic singer. It was a big day for the town to have one of their own up there."
