WATCH: 'The duck mask did the trick' - an original Irish homecoming that will make you laugh
An Irish girl treated her mother to an emotional surprise with an early homecoming.
Triona Fitzgerald returned home from America this week to surprise her mother but made her big entrance disguised as a duck.
The Waterford girl had been living in New York for over a year, working at a coco liqueur start-up.
She told Independent.ie that she wanted to surprise her family "after a hard year".
The 24-year-old gave her mother the fright of her life as she stood outside the family house dressed in a duck mask.
"We had a really hard year and have been grieving the loss of a loved one so it was a very special reunion," she said.
"I wanted to bring a smile to their faces after a hard year and my duck mask from Amazon did the trick."
The cries of surprise from her mother were probably worth the trip alone, although she did greet Triona in typical Irish mammy fashion: "Oh for God's sake, where did you come from?" she asked as her daughter lifted up the mask for the big reveal.
