WATCH: Surfer miraculously survives fall from top of 40-foot wave
Sometimes big risks on the waves pay off... this time it didn't.
The World Surf League has revealed its 2015 XXL Wipeout of the Year, showing surfer Tyler Hollmer-Cross fall from the top of a 40-foot wave.
The incident took place last September in Tasmania.
Fellow surfers at the time said they were amazed that Hollmer-Cross survived the hit.
"I had actually made one wave and was feeling relieved to be alive," his fellow surfer Mick Fanning told GrindTV last year.
"Then I saw Tyler’s wipeout and all the nerves came back. It was horrific. I was just so happy to see his head pop up.
"I’m not sure how he survived."
