Shocking footage purports to show the skater grinding down part of the bridge but he tumbles into the Nieuwe Maas River below.

The video, which comes with a confirmation that the man survived, shows the daredevil and his friends approaching the bridge and discussing his intent to climb it.

The skater is seen smoking before strapping his board to his back and scaling the 456-feet to the top.

Once at the top, he then begins grinding down one of the cables picking up speed before losing his balance and plummeting into the water below seconds later.

The short clip has received more some 270,000 views since being uploaded to video sharing site Rumble but many have questioned its authenticity.

According to Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad, Rotterdam police have said that a fall as shown in the video would result in instant death.

They also note that they have received no reports in regards to the incident despite the Erasmus Bridge being located in central Rotterdam.
