Cold weather can be very harsh on stray animals, so offers of shelter or accommodation are greatly appreciated by our furry friends.

Step forward Mustafa Efe, Imam at the Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Mosque in Istanbul, a man who is known for his good humour according to The Daily Sabah newspaper.

Not only is he a great person to be around, he is also a cat-lover, and his open-door policy means that stray kitties can take refuge in his mosque.

Describing the ownerless cats as his "Friday friends" he is delighted to welcome them and happily poses for photos with them.

Snaps taken by worshippers at the mosque have taken Twitter by storm.

His generosity has lead to one pregnant cat deciding to give birth to and raise her young in the mosque.

A video of he tending to her kittens has gone viral.

On behalf of cats everywhere we applaud you Mustafe Efe.
