Carter Reynolds tweeted a statement regarding the x-rated video, which was leaked online three days ago.

The Vine star had previously refused to comment on the leak, tweeting yesterday that he was "under advisement" to hold his statement one more day. He did not elaborate why he was "told to" do so.

In the statement, which has been retweeted over 39,000 times, said that the incident was a "HUGE misunderstanding".

"Couples do stuff like that all the time... I'm not saying it was the right thing to do but it's the truth".

"it was supposed to be a private video for no-one to see and I had no intention of posting it".

Reynolds claimed that the video's publication on his Twitter account was as a result of hacker, who hacked his iCloud and his Twitter account.

"I shouldn't of (sic) recorded anything to begin with and I should've (sic) just deleted it".

He addressed concerns about the interaction between the two in the video, writing:

"Yes, saying "do it" and "come on" were wrong... I should've (sic) just stopped asking when she said 'no'".

"For that I'm sorry to everyone I've offended and especially Maggie".

"Some people are blowing things WAY out of proportion and making up all these false accusations about me saying I.... forced her into doing something that she didn't want to do... well, all of that is a lie".

Reynolds said that he wished he had spoken out earlier.

"I just couldn't think of what to say because I was so overwhelmed by all of the hate and negativity towards me".

"I am very sorry".

His ex-girlfriend and video co-star, Maggie Lindemann, has not yet addressed the video directly, simply tweeting "love you guys always".

Previously, Reynolds had tweeted to his 2.3m followers that he had "had to follow advisement" on discussing the leak.

"I love you guys and hate letting you down".

"I want to make sure you know the full story about what happened".

On Monday, 'Carter' was the number one Twitter trend around the world after an x-rated video leaked which featured the Vine star with Instagram star Lindemann. 'Carter' is still trending worldwide today.

Carter's genitals are visible in the video and he can be heard to say "Do it" and "just pretend (the camera) isn't there". Lindemann replies "I don't think I can", repeating "I am really uncomfortable". The video ends with Carter saying "Oh my gosh, Maggie".

The two social media stars recently broke up amid a very public spat on Twitter, in which Lindemann claimed she ended the relationship because Carter "makes me feel like sh*t".

"I dumped him because he yells at me if I don’t do what he wants, or if I do anything he doesn’t like". she tweeted.

“He tells me to STFU and doesn’t let me do stuff…gets mad if I want to hang out with friends".

Since the breakup Lindemann has been defending herself against death threats online but the tide has turned in the wake of the leak with fans labelling the video "gross".

Different reports have circulated around the age of the two teenagers. Major news outlets have raised questions around the age of consent but it is unclear in which US State the video was recorded.
