'The thought of outliving you terrifies me' - Married couple speak openly about forty year age gap
A couple who have been married ten years spoke openly about their almost forty year age gap for the Emmy award-winning series 'The And', produced by 'The Skin Deep' for Glamour Magazine.
Catherine, in her thirties and Melvin, in his seventies, have been married for ten years.
As part of award winning series 'The And', they addressed a number of questions around the relationship including their age gap and what about their "dynamic" relationship "terrifies" them.
Catherine revealed that the thought of "outliving" Melvin terrifies her.
"I try not to think about it, but I do".
Melvin was surprised with that answer, replying "Well then, we better talk about it. Not tonight, but soon".
Addressing the age gap, Melvin said that the only real way in which their relationship has impacted their lives is in relation to children.
He joked that he actually "gets a kick" out of people asking "is this your granddaughter?"
Melvin told Catherine that the one thing he hopes she takes from their relationship is "confidence".
"The fact that I am going to leave before you has come up two or three times already... I want you to take the confidence from this relationship to handle your life... after I'm gone".
The video ends with Melvin explaining why he loves Catherine.
"I love you because you're my soulmate, my friend, my best friend. I can depend on you".
"You tell me you love me every night before I go to bed".
Catherine replied "Because I still do. Every night".
