There’s nothing worse than losing your luggage… unless it’s losing your luggage the day before your wedding.

Lucia Sessions arrived to the scenic Orkney, Scotland on Monday morning with less than 24 hours until her big day.

Her luggage was lost en route, meaning Lucia had arrived at her wedding destination with not even a shoe to wear on her big day.

Cue: a social media post sparking goodwill in the town of Orkney and beyond as women offered up their own wedding clothes and accessories to the desperate bride.

The Kirkwall Hotel wrote online: “A Request for help!!

“We have a couple staying with us who are due to get married tomorrow afternoon - Their luggage has gone missing in transit, and she has no wedding dress, no wedding shoes, no wedding anything!

A massive congratulations to Lucia and John. We wish them all the best for the future. (And heres some pics as requested by so many)

“Is there anyone that might be able to lend any of the above for an afternoon?

“The lady is 5ft tall and a UK size 8. She wears a size 7.5 shoe.

“If you can help, please message us here, email us on enquiries@kirkwallhotel.com or phone us on 872232.”

The urgent plea sparked a phenomenal response with people offering Lucia their dresses, shoes, veils, umbrellas, tiaras, makeup and even nail varnish.

"I'm really grateful for the dress that fit, but I would have been absolutely honoured to wear any of your gorgeous dresses," Sessions said later.

"I know they tell the story of your life, and it's a story I'll share too."

"All the love you've provided for me will never, ever be forgotten. I hope you know how much it means to me."

The hotel later posted photographs of the couple’s big day and a video message from the bride herself, thanking everyone for helping her celebrate her wedding day in style.

“You’ll always be in my heart,” Lucia said.
