'I guess you need a lesson in independence': Why this mother's angry letter to her son is going viral
Never mess with the boss.
A mother decided to teach her son a "lesson in independence" by schooling him in exactly what it costs to run a household.
Estella Havisham, an assumed name because she is a domestic abuse survivor, wrote a letter to her son 'Aaron' telling the 13-year-old to stop treating her like a roommate and instead like a parent.
In the letter, which has been shared more than 162,000 times on Facebook and Twitter, details the cost of rent, electricity, internet and food for the month.
Hey! Aaron's mom here Estella. I am reaching out since FB disabled my account. So, for now, you can follow me here. pic.twitter.com/q4gpQuxk7f— Estella Havisham (@EstellaH_Mom) September 12, 2015
The fight reportedly began when the teenager didn't complete his homework and makes money from videos of YouTube.
"As you threw in my face that you are making money now, it will be easier to buy back all the items I bought for you in the past," she writes.
"If you would like your lamp/lightbulbs or access to the internet, you will need to pay your share of costs."
The mother said she had never anticipated the message would go viral and only meant it as a joke to be shared with friends and family on her personal Facebook page.
"It is still a work in progress. This incident just happened last week. It has made a difference though. When I ask him to do something, he does it,"she wrote in a follow up post.
