Celebrities take to Twitter in support of Tom Daley following YouTube video announcement

Tom Daley has been praised by some big names for his courage after announcing in an emotional YouTube video that he is in a same-sex relationship.

The Olympic bronze medal-winning diver, 19, tweeted a link to the video to his 2.4 million Twitter followers, and he said: "Got something I need to say … not been an easy decision to make, hope you can support me!"

In the self-shot five-minute clip, Daley said he "couldn't be happier", adding: "I've been dating girls and I've never really had a serious relationship to talk about and now I feel ready to talk about my relationships.”

Stephen Fry tweeted to the diver that he was “so happy” for  “I opened the second door on my advent calendar and Tom Daley came out. Seriously @TomDaley1994 congratulations. So happy for you.”

Una Foden said: “Huge respect for @tomdaley1994 for coming out in such a brave manner. Lovely guy too X”

The Wanted star Siva Kaneswaran was quick to show his support to the diving star and tweeted him saying: "@TomDaley1994 Fair play mate. Very happy for ya :)."

Four-time Olympic diving champion Greg Louganis, who came out as gay following his retirement, was among the first to pay tribute to Daley.

He said: ‘I am so happy for you that you have someone, also for your mom, I am sure this will just bring you closer, and for your dad I am sure he is smiling down from heaven knowing his son is happy.’

Former England footballer and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker tweeted: "Delighted that @TomDaley1994 is happy in his new relationship. Well done for sharing it. Good luck to them both."

Little Britain star Matt Lucas also showed his support on Twitter.

And comedian Russell Brand wrote: “Well done sunshine, dive into love.”
