Nothing is worse than live-tweeting on a bad connection... or so one TD discovered Monday evening.

Minister Shane Ross decided to join in on the social media chat for Katie Taylor's much-anticipated Olympic bout against Finland's Mira Potkonen.

However, the sports minister's tweets did not publish until a full six hours after the Bray sportswoman's devastating defeat.

Ross' enthusiastic online support appeared amongst comments of commiseration.

"Honoured to be cheering as Katie enters the ring... go, Katie, go!," the Independent TD wrote in a couple of tweets.

The Twitterati were quick to respond with wit, one asking: "Is this a rematch?"

Another wrote: "Finally got the wiffi code?", referring to former senator Fidelma Healy-Eames' infamous mispronunciation.

A third person wrote: "Stick 20 euro on the Finn for me bro."
