A postman in Co Waterford managed to deliver a letter to its correct destination, despite the fact that the envelope didn't have a correct address.

The Ray D'Arcy Show on RTE's Radio One received an email on Tuesday morning which highlighted the incredible sleuthing work of An Post postmen.

Petra Kindler got in touch with the show to explain that her friend in Germany had tried to send her a letter but had, unfortunately, forgotten the address.

She wrote: "Have a look at the 'address' on the envelope our postman handed me this morning with a wider than usual grin...!"

The show's producer, Will Hanafin, posted the envelope on Twitter so listeners could see exactly what the postman was up against.

The address reads:

Petra Kindler and Donal Moore,

Unfortunately I forgot the street name but it's near a street named Cul de Sac,

The beautiful city of Waterford,

Well known for its kindly postmen,

Ireland,

Petra is German but lives in Waterford. The letter was sent to her by her friend Kai Flemming, who is a German cartoonist.

It arrived in Dublin on Thursday, February 2 and was delivered to the correct address on Tuesday, February 7.

Kai was right, the postmen are clearly kindly in Waterford to go out of their way to make sure that letter was delivered, despite having very little go on.

Hats off to An Post's canny postal service.
