PICTURES: Irish dog Theo is paralysed but 'once he's in his wheels there's no stopping him'
Meet Theo, a gorgeous nine year old dachshund. He may rely on a doggie wheelchair to get around but he is as happy and as spirited as any other canine.
Theo ruptured a disc in his back last summer, and was left paralysed following an operation.
His proud owner, Galway woman Avril Twomey, says that he is still the carefree pet he always was, with the same loving personality. "Once he's in his wheels there's no stopping him," she says.
Avril explained that the Irish weather presents the principle challenge when caring for a disabled dog.
"Getting him out of his wheels and into the car at the end of a walk on the prom in Salthill when it is raining is tricky," she added.
However, she says that life with a disabled dog is just a matter of adapting to a new set of circumstances. "He hasn't a clue that he's paralysed," she says.
Theo loves the sunshine, lives in the moment and adores his life - same as any other mutt then.
