Marvel Comics illustrator, Will Sliney, proposed to his girlfriend, Laura O'Callaghan, in a series of Disney-style comics that traced the couples' four-year history.

Will threw a surprise party for Laura, a music teacher from Carrigaline, in Preachers Bar in Cork City last Saturday for her 29th birthday.

During the celebrations he gathered friends and family around the pub's big screen where images from his 22-strip cartoon were projected one-by-one.

As family and friends looked on, he got Laura to read the rhyming story aloud.

The strip traced their history from childhood. To their first meeting in Cork. It highlighted treasured moments from their past. As well as hopes for their future.

Saving the big question until last.

And, like all fairytales, it looks like the couple are going to live happily ever after.

The 32-year-old Ballycotton-based illustrator, who also works with Everton football club, said he was delighted it all worked out.

“There are so many people to thank for helping me set this up as this plan has been in the works for quite a while but right now I just want to thank Laura for saying yes,” he said.
