Bairbre Power: Out and about
Our resident diarist calls into the best parties and events around the country
My ol' pal Marty Whelan was at his witty best MCing the autumn fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research, (formerly the NBCRI), held at the Shelbourne Hotel.
It was a day of strong-willed women toasting the work of others and inspiring survivors who gave everyone the incentive to dig deeper and contribute to the charity. Special guests included Dr Anna Ó Coinne, former chairperson and Professor Michael Kerin, research director, pictured with Marty.
The Fran & Jane store in Blackrock sponsored the Best Dressed Lady competition and I caught up with the pair of fashion dynamos, Fran Nolan and Jane Baker, pictured above with Miriam Hand (centre) who received a rousing applause for her work organising the day.
Sandra Walsh gifted a pair of her Canopi sleeves to every table, and among the guests I spotted were former Tánaiste, Mary Harney, and former MEP, Bernie O'Toole. I sat with Maria Whelan who could only smile at her hubbie's distinctive brand of humour. "I'll have to have a word with him at home," Maria laughed. Turns out, the Lyric FM host has a new CD of music coming out for Christmas.
