No playing second fiddle at annual Trad fest

Wednesday January 09 2008

Ireland's thriving traditional music scene is defining the nation in an ever-shrinking world, Hollywood star Stephen Rea said yesterday.

The actor, patron of this year's Temple Bar Trad Festival, said the tradition was alive and vibrant and an important part of Ireland's national heritage.

More than 200 musicians will descend on the capital's cultural quarter for the five-day Temple Bar Trad Festival, which begins on January 23, for a host of concerts, pub sessions, kids events and workshops.

Pictured at yesterday's launch were fiddler Niamh Ni Charra and model Blathnaid McKenna. Martin Nolan
