THE white gloves were on and the wall space measured several times over, as would be expected when you're hanging a painting of this worth.
Art handler Kevin Kelly had the prestigious job of positioning the first piece of work by Pierre-Auguste Renoir to be shown at the National Gallery of Ireland.
'Jeune femme en blanc lisant' (Young woman in white reading), by the French artist, is set to become part of the major summer exhibition 'Impressionist Interiors'.
The oil painting was purchased at auction at Sotheby's Sale of Impressionist & Modern Art in New York for €330,000 in November last year. Painted in 1873, the piece depicts a fashionably dressed woman seated on a sofa absorbed in a book.
Renoir -- who lived from 1841 to 1919 -- was a leading figure in the development of the impressionist style.
The painting will be on view to the public from today, before becoming part of the main exhibition, which opens in May.
