Olympian keeps pledge and successfully saves five out of six Sochi strays
Silver medal-winning American freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy has completed the paperwork necessary to bring five of his six-strong pack of ex-strays home to America following the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
A female dog, her three puppies and a friend have all been saved by the kind-hearted skier following his pledge to save them from the fate promised to stray dogs during the Olympics.
He promised to adopt the five furry friends and bring them home with him to America.
The dogs arrived in New York City on Wednesday and are on route to Denver with photographer Robin Macdonald.
Meanwhile, not all of the intended rescues were so lucky.
Macdonald tweeted this picture before leaving Sochi with the caption 'No words can explain what has happened here, good bye little guy, we will miss you".
He went on to to explain "She died. they refused to let me bring her to get treatment."
He had previously tweeted about the pup's poor health issues and his frustration at the government's "games".
The two men are appearing on the Today Show today with the puppies following features in ELLE and PEOPLE magazine.
