'Irish Election Rides' blog goes viral

A blog chronicling "rides" contesting the Irish local elections has gained traction online for its unusual approach.

The blog, which gained attention on Reddit Ireland over the weekend, stars "people we think are physically attractive who are also seeking election".

The photographs of the candidates are posting with the information on their names, parties and where the candidate is running.

The blog reminds readers not to make up their mind based on how the candidates look. "That's just silly."

Readers can submit suggestions on candidates they think are "rides" by e-mailing ridesuggestions@gmail.com

Twitter users responded positively to the blog, with Deirdre O'Shaughnessy tweeting "Equal-opportunities objectification of our politicians? Sure why not" while Twitter user Paddy Duffy added that the blog was "the only place during #le14 where we'll likely get close to a 50/50 gender candidate balance."

Some candidates were pleased with the blog too, with Patrick Martin of Fine Gael admitting that making the blog "made my night!", while others were disappointed not to make the list.
