Colleges to stay open during strike
Saturday November 21 2009
Third-level colleges will stay open next Tuesday but severe disruption of lectures is expected, writes John Walshe.
University College Cork will close but that is because of flooding.
University College Dublin said some students had assessments and/or assignment submissions scheduled for Tuesday and it would try to maintain services at as close a level as possible to normal.
Trinity College Dublin has cancelled all lectures and laboratory sessions for Tuesday. The decision was taken after a health and safety assessment concluded the risk of conducting lectures and laboratory sessions was unacceptably high. "All other academic activities will continue," it said.
The Institutes of Technology said they would be open but had advised their students that services may be badly disrupted.
