Over 50,000 tweets have been sent with the hashtag for the General Election (#GE16) since the election was called forty-eight hours ago.
84% of candidates running in the upcoming general election have a Twiter account and the most followed candidate is Gerry Adams (@GerryAdamsSF) with almost 100,000 followers.
There were 10.8M total impressions for tweets including #GE16 in the first 48 hours.

Twitter Dublin have created a list of all the #GE16 candidates' and party accounts, which you can follow here.
Since the dissolution of the Dáil, Twitter have been tracking mentions of the most mentioned political leader and party in the country.
Gerry Adams takes the crown of the most followers but, according to Twitter data provided to Independent.ie, the accolade of 'most mentioned' on Twitter goes to the Taoiseach Enda Kennt. (@EndaKennyTD).
Fine Gael (@FineGael) is the most followed party, with Sinn Fein (@SinnFeinIreland) and Fianna Fail (@Fiannafailparty) in second and third.
