Why Google wants to become your friendly local search tool
GOOGLE is increasing its efforts to capture the market for local and location-based searches by adding new features to its Place Search function.
A fifth of all searches on Google are related to a user's location and a growing number of applications have become location-aware. The company said yesterday it was becoming increasingly important to "organise the world's information around places".
The new features are designed to make it easier for users to connect with local businesses by linking contact information, reviews, news blogs and other related material with more than 50 locations.
