New UPC owner Virgin Media has appointed former O2 Ireland ceo Tony Hanway as CEO of its operations in Ireland.
Mr Hanway held a number of roles with Telefonica across Europe, including the O2 role in Ireland, consumer director of O2 in the Czech Republic and, latterly, chief commercial officer of O2 in Germany.
Prior to joining O2, he was managing director of AOL Europe Operations and vice president AOL UK, and was chairman of the Irish Telecom and Internet Federation between 2013 and 2014. UPC Ireland became Virgin Media earlier this month. Subject to regulatory approval, the Company has also agreed to acquire TV3, the largest commercial broadcaster in Ireland.
