Spanish jobless figure hits 23pc
SPAIN’S unemployment figures hit 22.85pc at the end of 2011 to the highest level in the industrialised world.
Over five million people are now out of work there, according to figures from the National Statistics Institute.
The rate is a 17-year high, up from 21.5pc in the third quarter.
The jobless rate is expected to rise further as the new Government slashes spending further.
Unemployment among those aged between 16 and 24 climbed to 51.4pc at the end of the year from 45.8pc on September 30.
