By John Reynolds

Sunday November 29 2009

BILLIONAIRE and philanthropist George Soros (above), whose $10bn currency bet famously broke the Bank of England in 1992, has invested $5m in Manocap, an African private equity firm co-founded by Kerryman Niall O'Cathasaigh, a former Goal executive.

The Manocap Soros Fund will focus on farming and related services in Sierra Leone.

A second fund established by Mr O'Cathasaigh will plough up to $30m into fishing, farming, tourism and finance in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ghana.
