BBC News has dipped its toe into the murky waters of Instagram in an attempt to widen its reach on social media platforms. The news division of the British media giant has launched Instafax, a new short-form video news service delivered via Instagram.

The project is a month-long experiment; three 15-second daily news round-ups will be uploaded per day.

The trial, BBC bosses said, was inspired by changes in recent audience patterns. December internet figures showed mobile and tablet consumption beat desktop viewing for the first time.

BIG PRIZE FOR EVENTS FIRM

VICTORIAN-era strongmen, laser graffiti and even a clear-top tent which enabled guests to enjoy projections mapped on the courtyard's walls were just some of the features that graced the star-studded 'Rock and Royalty' Google event that took place in Dublin's Royal Kilmainham Hospital in December 2012.

A full year later, the events company behind it is still being rained upon with praise. Independently owned Verve, which organised the proceedings, has just been awarded a prestigious international award for its troubles. It won the 'Best event produced for a corporation or association' prize at the International Special Events Awards 2014, which were held last week in Nashville, Tennessee.

CBS OUTDOOR REBRANDS

BILLBOARD company CBS Outdoor has formally rebranded as Exterion Media, following its parent company's acquisition in September by private equity firm Platinum Equity.

Out-of-home advertising is the second fastest growing advertising category globally after the internet, according to research group WARC. It predicts 2.8pc growth for this sub-sector in 2013, rising to 3.7pc growth in 2014.

BAM SPONSORS IRISH OPEN

BAM, Ireland's largest public works construction company, is the new official sponsor of the Irish Open Golf Championship which takes place at Fota Island Resort from June 19-22.

The Irish Open hasn't been played in Cork since 2002, when Denmark's Soren Hansen took home the title. It was also played at Fota in 2001, when Colin Montgomerie won the last of his three Irish Opens.

The attendance this year of world number six Rory McIlroy, who recently got engaged to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki , should help drum up interest. Golf is one of the country's most important tourist activities – around 160,000 overseas visitors play golf ever year, contributing an estimated €202m to the economy.

His replacement at Initiative will be Eamon Fitzpatrick, who has been the advertising sales director of 'The Irish Times' for the past five years.
