Lack of 'Love/Hate' on shelves cost iconic store

HMV lost out by not having one of the 'must have' Christmas gifts of 2012 due to difficulties with suppliers.

The chain's 16 stores in the Republic suffered as they were unable to obtain the box set of hit RTE series 'Love/Hate'.

Retailing at €24.99, rival Dublin store Tower Records reported selling hundreds of copies of the box set on the day of its release last December 17.

Steven Fitzgerald, CEO of Golden Discs, said his chain was "selling out of the DVD set within hours".

Three weeks on and the box set remains at No 1 in the Irish DVD charts, with a DVD of series three in the No 3 spot.

But it was not until last Saturday that branches of HMV received their first stock of the Irish bestseller.
