Independent.ie leads way in online news as user numbers up 51pc

The number of users on independent.ie has grown by 51pc since 2012, confirming it as the leading news publishing site in Ireland.

An ABC report has revealed a total of 5.9 million unique users for the month of August, an increase of almost two million since the last audit in 2012.

Monthly page impressions also rose from almost 46 million in 2012 to a total of over 64 million in 2013 – an increase of 39pc.

The traffic levels have remained steady throughout the month, delivering an average of 354,000 unique browsers every day.

Independent.ie has grown from strength to strength since its relaunch this year, providing an improved reader experience through vivid galleries, videos and cleaner navigation.

The site provides breaking news content across news, business, sport, technology sectors and is delivered to users on tablet, mobile and desktop platforms.

Marketing director Geoff Lyons said: "We are delighted with these numbers, they are testament to our relentless commitment to providing our readers with trusted, relevant, quality, engaging content. Importantly, the consistency of our traffic means that we are delivering quality sticky audiences on a daily basis for our advertisers."
