Europe calls off Hungary bailout

THE European Commission has postponed its review of payment assistance to Hungary .

"Hungary has returned to positive economic growth and now has one of the lowest budget deficits in the EU," Olli Rehn, commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, said.

Irish firms given €213m EU funding

R&D

Irish companies and higher education institutions have received €213m in EU funding under the Seventh EU Framework Programme. Innovation Minister Conor Lenihan said the funding was used for research projects in areas like ICT, health, nano-technology, agriculture and energy research.

Business owners warned on fraud

ISME, the Irish Small & Medium Enterprises Association, has warned owner-managers to be particularly vigilant over the holiday period as fraudsters target businesses through a range of sophisticated scams. A recent survey confirmed that 66pc of businesses had been the target of a potential scam in the past 12 months.

Boeing wins $5bn jet-making deal

AIRLINES

Boeing C, the world's second-biggest commercial jet maker, is set to win an order from Emirates Airline. The Dubai government-owned carrier and the Chicago-based plane maker will announce an order for about 20 777s wide-body jets today. The deal would be valued at almost $5bn (€3.85bn) at list prices.
