Emirates confident over Dublin route

EMIRATES is confident that it will be able to fill a large number of its first-class seats when the airline commences its route from Dublin to Dubai next month. The carrier's executive vice president of worldwide passenger sales, Thierry Antinori, said there had been strong forward bookings for the service.
Irish firm settles case in Australia
SETTLEMENT
AN Irish travel-software firm, Datalex, has settled a legal case in Australia. Flight Centre had brought a claim against Datalex, including misleading and deceptive conduct. It had been seeking damages as high as AUS$14m (€10.75m). Datalex said the dispute had been settled to both sides' "mutual satisfaction". Datalex will shoulder a AUS$2m (€1.54m) exceptional charge this year related to receivables and unrecoverable expenses.
Ryanair to open new base in Majorca
AVIATION
RYANAIR will open a new base at Palma in Majorca next March, basing four aircraft there. The airline will operate 17 new routes from Palma, to destinations including Cork, Marseille, Stockholm and Krakow. Ryanair also said that it's slashing its operations at Spain's Alicante airport in half next summer.
Ormonde raises its outlook on tungsten
MINING
IRISH mining firm Ormonde Resources has said the size of the estimated recoverable reserves at its tungsten mine in Spain has "substantially increased" following a drilling programme. The company hopes to begin mining tungsten at the location from 2013.
Oil jumps on fear of supply disruptions
CRUDE
OIL rose the most in almost four weeks on fear of a disruption to supplies. This followed a report that Iran will hold drills to close the Strait of Hormuz and that the US Federal Reserve may announce additional stimulus. Crude advanced as much as 3.6pc as the state-run Fars news agency reported the plans for military manoeuvres at the strait, a bottleneck for oil exports from the Persian Gulf. Futures pared gains on a denial by Iran.
