ECB leaves interest rates at 1pc

THE EUROPEAN Central Bank has held interest rates at a record low of 1pc as had been anticipated.
But economists believe the ECB may cut rates when it meets again next month.
Having hit 1.5pc in last year, although still very low, the eurozone debt crisis and the slowdown in the world economy meant that plans to increase rates were hampered.
While some economists believe the rates will be cut further next month, possibly to 0.75pc, other say the ECB will be reluctant to drop below the 1pc barrier.
