Bentley recalls 1,500 vehicles

BRITISH luxury carmaker Bentley is to recall nearly 1,500 vehicles globally for fear that unwitting pedestrians could become impaled on the brand's historic "flying B" bonnet ornament.

Bentley has admitted that the miniature ornament on the front of some models is failing to retract, as it is supposed to, in the event of a crash.

State to give Hypo €2bn more in aid

GERMANY will give the troubled bank Hypo Real Estate another €2.08bn in aid, the financial market stabilisation fund SoFin said yesterday. The bank has already received €7.85bn in cash along with €143.5bn in loan guarantees.

It said Biba -- an in-house brand -- helped drive a 10pc increase in like-for-like sales in the seven weeks since July 31.

BlackBerry maker to unveil iPad rival

THE company that makes the BlackBerry phone is set to reveal a device intended to challenge Apple's iPad in time for Christmas. Research in Motion has been rumoured for months to be working on a tablet computer -- dubbed the BlackPad -- but has yet to confirm it. However, it will unveil its plans imminently.
