Other than buying a house, getting married is one of the biggest potential bills facing a twenty- or thirtysomething. Or at least it was before all the money went down the plughole. Is there a serious slowdown in weddings? Wedding clothing sales on eBay.ie tumbled 40.38 per cent last year. Could it be that all the eligible young ones are emigrating?
Last week's Consumer Market Monitor, published by Smurfit Business School and the Marketing Institute of Ireland, showed consumer confidence plunged 28 per cent in the final quarter of 2011. Has the penny dropped that austerity wasn't just for Christmas? This reversed an upward trend as the consumer confidence figures fell to their lowest levels seen since the depths of the financial crisis in 2008/09.
