Visitors urged to arise and go to Sligo -- and they surely have

It began as an advertising campaign to get business moving in Sligo, and so far the results have exceeded expectations. Sligo's "Arise and Go" campaign combined a group of public and private interests in the county to attract visitors over summer months and beyond.

The print, digital and radio campaign, worth €140,000, has so far been a great success, with businesses seeing an "overwhelming" number of visitors -- one restaurant even having to shut its doors early because it ran out of food.

Sligo hotels are also reporting an increase in bookings year on year.
