Tony Smurfit set to take over as CEO of Smurfit Kappa

Smurfit Kappa has announced that current group president and chief operating officer Tony Smurfit is set to take over as the company's CEO from Gary McGann.

Mr McGann will retire at the end of August of this year. Mr Smurfit will succeed him as CEO of the Irish packaging giant and will officially take up his new position on 1 September.

Mr Smurfit said: "I am honoured to accept the trust the Board has placed in me and am committed to building on the team's outstanding contribution under Gary's leadership.

"We have a clear vision for Smurfit Kappa and a highly regarded, performance-oriented, management team to sustain that vision."

Gary McGann added: “It has been a privilege to lead Smurfit Kappa Group as CEO. I have been honoured to have the unwavering support of our team of top class professionals."

He added: "I am confident that Tony and the team will drive the performance of the Group to even greater levels of success in the years ahead.”
