Zynga shares rise as firm hires former Xbox boss Don Mattrick
GAMES maker Zynga is hiring Don Mattrick, the former head of Microsoft Corp's entertainment division, as its new chief executive officer.
Mr Mattrick will succeed Mark Pincus, who will remain chairman. The appointment will be effective July 8.
Mattrick faces the challenge of reigniting growth at Zynga, which is suffering amid rising competition from upstarts such as King.com as well as a shift in the way people play social games – away from laptops and toward handheld devices.
Shares of Zynga rose as much as 13pc after technology blog AllThingsD reported yesterday that Mattrick could take over. (Bloomberg)
