Yours for €290: Apple releases big book with 450 photos of its products
With €290 you almost have enough to purchase a brand new Apple Watch, but if you can’t quite stretch to it, here’s the next best thing.
Apple has released a coffee table book chronicling two decades of Apple’s products since Steve Jobs returned to the company and unveiled the iMac in 1998.
The book, titled Designed By Apple in California, costs £249 (€290) for a large version, which measures 13 inches by 16.25 inches, or a more manageable £169 for a more compact tome.
Apple says it was developed over eight years and will showcase products from the iMac to the Apple Pencil of 2015.
Technology products aren’t typically the subject of coffee table books, which are more likely to feature architecture or classic cars, but Apple is known for pride in its designs.
Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, said the book was “an objective representation of our work that, ironically, describes who we are”.
“This archive is intended to be a gentle gathering of many of the products the team has designed over the years,” he said. “We hope it brings some understanding to how and why they exist, while serving as a resource for students of all design disciplines.”
Apple said the book, which goes on sale on Wednesday is dedicated to the memory of Steve Jobs, the company’s co-founder, who died in 2011.
